The Southwestern Assemblies of God University women’s basketball team lost to No. 18 John Brown University, 55-41. The Lady Lions are now 6-8 overall and 3-5 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.

“We just have to keep working. We had really good energy tonight on the bench and I thought our defense played well enough to win the game," SAGU head girls' coach Tiffany Phillips explained. "Offensively, we just struggled tonight. Thankfully, Kenzie was hitting shots. She has been shooting the ball really well."

The Lady Lions got off to a slow start offensively going into halftime shooting 18 percent. Although SAGU was able to get defensive stops, they did not convert on the opposite end of the floor. After halftime, the Lady Lions were able to tie the game, 27-27, but completed the third quarter by falling behind, 37-31.

The Lady Lions were led in scoring by McKenzie Martin with 16 points. She was the only one in double figures. Several freshmen stepped up to help out the Lady Lions; Kiara Glenn contributed eight points, and Sydney Meador added six points. Dotty Diggles led the Lady Lions in rebounds with seven.

The Lady Lions finished with only 10 assists. The Golden Eagles had 17 assists. SAGU also had 26 turnovers to JBU’s 17. The Lady Lions were able to outrebound the Lady Eagles 43-to-35.

JBU was led in scoring by Kimmy Deines with 10 points. Jana Schammel led the Golden Eagles with six rebounds.
