OVILLA — One of the owners of Ovilla’s newest business, Golden Chick, has brought his passion for serving other to his restaurant.
Zack Masri serves as a deputy with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department and has for more than 15 years. According to a company-issued press release, Masri is the first active-duty sheriff's deputy to open a franchise.
The Ovilla Golden Chick, located at the corner of Ovilla Road and South Hampton Road, created more than 40 jobs. The restaurant opened its doors on Monday.
“My family and I are honored to open a Golden Chick in Ovilla. This industry is very special to me, as I grew up working in restaurants with my dad,” Masri said. “But this new restaurant is also about more than just business for us, it’s personal. For more than 15 years, Ellis County has been home to three generations of my family — it is truly a wonderful place to live. We are thrilled that through Golden Chick, we will have the opportunity to create new jobs for the community while providing delicious food for our neighbors.”
Masri is also the president of Yara Masri Management Company. He will open and operate the restaurant along with his parents, Mack and Bassima, wife, Hala, and his daughters.
Co-owner Bassima Masri stated that the response from the community has been great and, overall, people are happy to have the restaurant in the community. She noted that people could anticipate prompt service from staff members.
“People can expect exceptional service from our staff. They greet them from the time they open the door stating ‘welcome to Golden Chick.’ They take their order and take care of them,” Bassima said. “When they are sitting down they come over to see if there is anything they can help them with. We are trying to provide exceptional service and in the drive-thru, it is the same thing.”
Bassima noted that it is terrific to get the chance to work alongside family in this business. She added that she is proud of her son and his service as a sheriff's deputy.
Zack shared his mother’s thoughts about the first week in business in Ovilla.
“The community has been amazing. I can’t thank them enough. The support that we have had from our neighbors and the rest of the people in the community has been awesome. We definitely love it and want to continue whatever we can to help the City of Ovilla and other cities out there grow and grow in a positive way,” Masri explained. “Everyone here has a servant’s heart. That is what we look for in our employees and in our management staff. We are looking for people who want to serve. That is something that we talk to our team members about and tell them these are our neighbors, our friends, and our family. So when they come in here we are here to serve them.”
Masri added that the police officers and firefighters that come to the restaurant are family and makes it feel like home.
The restaurant is 2,200 square feet and features a modern design.
Masri expressed his thanks to city leaders who have not only welcomed them here but have helped with this project from the start to completion.
Along with providing quality food and service to Ovilla families, Masri said he plans to give back to the community by supporting the Red Oak Independent School District, Assist the Officer Foundation, St. Jude’s Research Hospital, and more.
“My family is constantly looking for ways to give back to the community that has given us so much,” Masri said. “We are excited that Golden Chick has given us the avenue to do that and more.”
