KISSIMMEE, Florida — The record-setting season will continue for the Southwestern Assemblies of God University volleyball team after a pair of wins in the opening rounds of the NCCAA National Tournament.

SAGU defeated Life Pacific (California) and Southern Wesleyan (South Carolina) in tournament action late in the week. With the two wins, sophomore setter Sophia Ivy now holds a single-season record for 1,429 assists and counting.

The Lady Lions defeated Life Pacific in three quick sets (25-15, 25-17, and 25-20). SAGU hit .352 as a team. Jessica Sodich (.439) and Kali Shaw (.450) both had nine kills. Paulyae Dawkins added eight kills and hit an impressive .667 clip. Sophia Ivy had 32 assists for the Lady Lions.

SAGU then held on to beat Southern Wesleyan in a five-set thriller 25-20, 18-25, 28-30, 25-16, and 15-5.

Sodich again led the way with 22 kills and nine digs. Shaw had 14 kills and 15 digs. Summer Skillern and Paulyae Dawkins both added 10 kills. Sophia Ivy had 52 assists.

The Lady Lions will continue their quest for an NCCAA National Championship. Game information will be released as it comes available.
