MCKINNEY — Finalists and winners for the 2017 Texas Downtown Association President’s Awards Program were recognized on Wednesday, Nov. 8 in McKinney at the annual Texas Downtown Conference President’s Awards Gala. The awards program recognizes outstanding projects, places, and people of Texas downtowns and is sponsored by the Texas Downtown Association (TDA).

The City of Waxahachie’s marketing program “Waxahachie: A Place in Your Heart, Texas,” was selected by judges as the sole finalist and winner of the Best Marketing Program category for communities with fewer than 50,000 residents. Waxahachie also was the lone winner of the People’s Choice designation.

The City of Waxahachie marketing team includes Downtown Development Director Anita Brown, Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Laurie Mosley, Director of Communications and Marketing Amy Borders, and Bob Lynn of M2 Marketing.

TDA was established in 1985 to connect and serve communities that are committed to downtown vitality. The membership organization is an independent, statewide nonprofit that represents cities and towns of all sizes, economic development corporations, chambers of commerce, local organizations, small businesses, and individuals.

One-hundred fifteen entries were submitted in 12 different categories from communities across the state. Judges reviewed entries online and then met in person to make their final selection of award finalists and winners. The panel included Kent Collins, Centro Development; P.A. Geddie, County Line Magazine; Lois Rodriguez, Texas Highways; and Evan Thompson, Preservation Texas.
