CRANDALL — The Ferris Yellowjackets are now 1-2 on the season after they traveled down Malloy Bridge Road to face the Crandall Pirates.

The Pirates capitalized on key turnovers and untimely penalties to soundly defeat the Yellowjackets, 41-3, on Friday night.

The Yellowjackets received the opening kickoff and promptly marched down the field to the Crandall 11-yard line. That was when Kobe Langford threw an interception that was returned all the way down to Ferris 5-yard line.

Crandall running back Tyson Gatewood ran the ball in for a four-yard touchdown and the extra point put the Pirates up early, 7-0.

The Pirates took firm control of the ballgame in the second quarter, as quarterback Josh reading completed a 28-yard touchdown pass for a two-score lead, 14-0. Tyson Gatewood added a 7-yard touchdown run before Reading would take it in himself for the fourth touchdown of the half.

Crandall carried a 28-0 lead into the locker rooms at the half.

On the Pirates' first possession of the third quarter. Josh Redding completed a 12-yard pass to receiver Billy Myers, but the ensuing snap on the extra point was fumbled. With the point-after no good, the Pirates held a 34-0 lead.

Crandall backup quarterback Stephen Dearman then entered the ballgame and completed a pass to Myers for 15 yards and a touchdown to push the score to 41-0 in the third.

The fourth quarter saw both teams trade punts throughout until Ferris managed a 25-yard field goal by Giovanni Bond for the final score.

Crandall won 41 - 3.

The Ferris Yellowjackets gave up 303 total yards of offense with the Pirates recording 156 yards in the air and 147 yards on the ground. The Yellowjackets could only muster 149 total yards of offense — 82 yards through the air and 67 yards rushing.

Offensive leaders for the Yellowjackets consisted of quarterback Kobe Lankford — completing 8-of-14 passes for 73 yards and one interception — and quarterback Riley Fagan, who completed 2-of-4 passes for nine yards. Damien Edwards led the rushing attack with nine carries for 31 yards, while Devonte Williams had six carries for 17 yards and Kobe Langford had 10 carries for 14 yards. Matthew Nunez led the receivers with five receptions for 66 yards and Damian Edwards added 16 yards on five catches.

The Yellowjackets travel to Mabank next Friday night for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
