As I’ve gotten older, I’ve discovered some things that I’ll admit, I didn’t really know, or I’ll be honest and say, I didn’t really care to know when I was a younger.
I’ve discovered that everyone needs to have a sense of purpose and belonging. Find someone who has lost their purpose in life and you will find a miserable individual!
God gives us all a built in sense of “Purpose”…. It’s part of our soul and who we are! Some get hung up on things of this world and lose there “Purpose Compass” if you will. I say, “Things of this World” because the world focuses on #1; what is important to ME; it’s all about my needs and my wants and not anything else or anyone else! You live that way long enough and all of the “Purposes” that God placed inside of you take a back seat. If they stay in the back seat long enough, they are soon easily forgotten about. Before you know it, you are living your life like the majority of the population. You are living for #1! You get up in the morning, throw down some breakfast, rush off to work, make as much money as you possibly can; live for Friday at 5:00 p.m. to be off of work; have fun on the weekend and then your back to do it all over again on Monday. We do this day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year. We get married, we have a family, we work hard, we pay our bills and we do what is necessary to survive.
There is one thing that is so important but we get busy and forget about it.... Our “Purpose” for being here! The reason God created us!
Do you really think that God created you so you could see how much money you could make in a lifetime or how many new cars you could own or live in the biggest home? The truth is, there is nothing wrong with making money or driving new cars or living in big homes; my point is this…”Where is God in our lives?”
None of these things have anything do with our “Purpose!”
One day this very short life we are living is going to come to an abrupt end! The next thing we know, we are going to be standing before our Maker and He’s going to look at you and me and say, “What have you done for me?” What will we say? What will we be able to say?
God created you for a reason! God created you for a “Purpose!” It’s never too late for us to find out what our “Purpose” is!
There is a very specific task that God has called you and created you to do. Only you can do it and when you do, you are blessed along with so many others and God receives all the glory and praise for the good work that is done.
The truth is, when we die, the only thing we will take with us; the only thing that will follow us into eternity is what we have done for God; how we have lived out our “Purpose!”
There’s a very popular poem written by Linda Ellis, titled The Dash…. This poem talks about our “Purpose.” Linda Ellis references the date of birth and the date of death on our cemetery markers, but the most important thing is the dash that separates these dates! The dash represents our time on Earth and what we have done while we were alive. Linda writes, “For it matters not how much we own; the cars, the house, the cash; what matters is how we live and love and how we spend our Dash!”
How have you been living your “Purpose” or your “Dash?”
How can you get back on track? It’s pretty easy really! You find a quiet place and you kneel down on your knees and you ask the Lord to show you what your purpose is! He will show you! The more time you spend with God, the more He will reveal to you.
You will find that putting God No. 1 and moving to that No. 2 spot is very rewarding. In fact the bible talks about this in Matthew 16:25, “For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.” It is also referenced in Matthew 10:39, “If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.”
Allow God to move in your life; to show you what your “Purpose” really is!
I can promise you that if you do, you will find a happiness that you have never felt before and you’ll be so proud to say that you are No. 2 and you have found your “Purpose!”
Do something to make a difference in someone’s life today!
