WAXAHACHIE — Southwestern Assemblies of God University is adding a scholarship for new Digital Media Arts majors.
New on-campus undergraduate students who choose Digital Media Arts as their major will receive $1,000 per year ($500 per semester). This scholarship is renewable, allowing students to save up to $4,000 on a 4-year degree.
“This scholarship will reward some of the hardest working students on SAGU’s campus. DMA students are constantly pushing themselves to high levels of production value that often exceeds what is normally required for typical college classes," said professor and director of the Digital Media Arts (DMA) program, Rob Price. "While creating top quality projects in digital video has its own personal reward, I am pleased with this additional financial motivation being made available to my students, and I deeply appreciate it.”
Qualification is simple. New students who intend to earn their Digital Media Arts degree on-campus, meet the academic requirements and declare Digital Media Arts as their major when they enroll, receive the scholarship. The scholarship can be renewed annually if the student remains a Digital Media Arts major in good academic standing.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of film and video editors and camera operators is projected to grow 11 percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than average for all occupations. Religious organizations, businesses and industries continue to progress and evolve their means of communication creating a deeper need for digital media professionals.
“We need more faith-based gatekeepers in cinema, entertainment television, music, broadcast journalism, marketing, and even inside the church,” Price said. “That is exactly why SAGU has a Digital Media Arts program, and we are blessed to have such a high caliber of students who share our values.”
