WAXAHACHIE — Celebrating its grand opening, iKids Pediatrics Dentistry opened its doors while also partnering with Miracle League of Ellis County in a block party with a cause.

“We just opened up in April, and we’re absolutely excited to be in Waxahachie,” expressed Samantha Sandness, iKids Director of Marketing on Saturday, June 3. “When we did our grand opening, we wanted to find an organization that we would love to partner with and Miracle League was at the top of our list. So we decided we wanted to do something for them and decided, ‘Why not? And have 100 percent of our proceeds go to them."

“Miracle League is an opportunity for those who may not have had an opportunity,” expressed Jon McLaughlin, Executive Director of the Waxahachie Family YMCA. “It’s a chance for kids and adults alike to add 'play' back in their lives where a lot of folks, maybe after they get out of high school, really don’t have a lot of opportunities to play and be apart of something. And this finally gives them an opportunity to be a part of that’s all their own."

Specializing in pediatric dental care from ages of six months to 18 years, iKids is no stranger to treating children with developmental delays since beginning in 2009.

“Our whole goal is to provide that child with a good dental experience,” confirmed Dr. Blane Hamilton, DMD, and co-owner of iKids. “We want them to come back and see us every time, and we want their parents to have a good experience too. We also see a lot of special needs children, and most of them it’s just trying to desensitize them to how we take care of them and what we do."

In a festive and imaginative celebration to connect with the community, the iKids team dedicated it's grand opening to Ellis County families, raising funds for a Miracle League ballpark.

“I got a lot of feedback from some folks that said that their kids had a blast, that there was a lot for them to do, and there was a lot for them to take home,” McLaughlin confirmed.

“Anytime you give away free pizza and sweet tea, then you have a good event in my eyes,” he joked. “But iKids went way above and beyond that. They had Batman and Wonder Woman, the music and the live DJ that was interacting with the crowd – everything was top-notch.”

From a rock-climbing wall to face painting, a silent auction, and a superhero photo booth, the event was a household hit with all the proceeds going towards the Miracle League’s programming.

“We’re doing a ‘Hug A Hero’ donation which is why the police department and fire department were out there,” Sandness described. “So every kid that hugs a hero, iKids would donate five dollars to Miracle League."

“We have close to $1.5 million budget to build a ballpark, and anything making a dent is a big help,” thanked McLaughlin.

“We’ll probably take that towards programming because we try not to charge parents and kids to be participants in programs for our angles in Miracle League programs. So that money will help offset some costs and go towards the bigger chunk to build this ballpark,” he explained the designation of the funds.

Through kind donations sponsored by CC’s Pizza, Chick-Fil-A, and Kona Ice, the Waxahachie spirit rose to the occasion — contributing over $1,000.

“It was a great event, and I know the weather kept some people at bay, but iKids just rolled out the red carpet for us and helped us turn the light on to a great cause,” McLaughlin smiled.

From partnering with Disney Radio to the American Heart Association, many school districts, and community sponsored outlets, the dentistry has not shied away from an opportunity to connect with its new home.

“We do this for the community and want to be involved wherever we’re at, and we want to be a part of their life and their children. And that’s why we’ve already begun associations with Miracle League,” Hamilton expounded. “To us, it’s extremely important because we could come to work and do what we do, but if we claim to reach out to the community, we want something to show for that and Miracle League is the way to do that."
