WAXAHACHIE — Waxahachie Police recently arrested Waxahachie resident Marquavius Wheaton, 19, in connection with the robbery of a beauty supply store. Wheaton has been charged with aggravated robbery.
“On Feb. 14 at about 9:15 a.m. we got a call of an armed robbery at a beauty supply store located in the 800 block of Ferris Ave.,” Waxahachie Police Lt. Todd Woodruff said. “Our officers responded and met with the caller who reported she was robbed at gunpoint before the suspect fled on foot with cash taken from the business.”
Woodruff said officers collected surveillance video from the store that showed the offense. Police then posted a photo of the suspect on social media. They ended up getting several tips called in that week from persons who thought the suspect looked like some they knew.
“We executed a search warrant Friday afternoon, Feb. 17, at a residence in the 100 block of Penn St. and located a handgun,” Woodruff said. “Officers took Wheaton into custody on an outstanding traffic warrant. After an interview with Waxahachie Police Department detectives, he was charged with Aggravated Robbery and taken to Wayne McCollum Detention Center.”
Wheaton was booked into the detention center on Feb. 18. In addition to the aggravated robbery charge, Wheaton was also charged with possession of marijuana less than two ounces in a drug-free zone and speeding. According to detention center records Wheaton was given bonds totaling $51,0000. Online records show that he is no longer listed as an inmate at the detention center as of 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
