FORNEY — Although not yet officially official, three Ellis County high schools are actively planning trips to Lindale for a regional powerlifting meet following strong team and individual showings at the 10th annual Forney Jackrabbit Invitational.

Thanks to a dominating display Saturday in Forney, Waxahachie powerlifting coach Rocky Robinson will have to haul nine of his Indians to Lindale High School with all having a chance to punch a ticket to the state meet. In total, 17 powerlifters hailing from Waxahachie, Ennis and Red Oak High Schools currently sit in one of the coveted top-12 spots in Region 3 of Division 1. Both Red Oak and Ennis each currently have four lifters eyeing a trip to the regional meet.

The Indians, behind a pair of first place lifters and five who finished second, flexed their proverbial muscles Saturday morning and into the afternoon, notching their third first-place finish in four meets this season. Statistically, it was the most dominating of the three wins, with Waxahachie nearly doubling up second place North Forney in the team totals, 40 points to 21.

Ennis, Red Oak and Maypearl finished 7th, 17th and 19th with 12, three and zero points, respectively. Maypearl was the only of the four Ellis County teams present not in Division 1, as the Panthers compete in Division 3, Region 3.

For Waxahachie, Caleb High and Anthoney Perez continued their stellar powerlifting season, with each claiming first place honors in their respective weight classes.

High, in the 220-pound class, cranked out his highest totals on all three lifts this season as he prepares for a return trip to the Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Championships. The junior finished with totals of 600, 370 and 560 pounds on the squat, bench and deadlifts for his new season-high 1,530-pound total. High remains just clear of fellow Indian powerlifter, Nick Stewart, as the No. 1 lifter in the Region 3 220-pound weight class. Stewart also finished the Forney meet with a new season-high 1,500-pound total.

The only two other Ellis County powerlifters competing in the 220-pound class were Red Oak's Chris Boone and Swinton Jackson. The two Hawks finished in 6th and 7th places with a 1,160 and 1,150-pound total, respectively.

In the 242-pound class, Perez matched the same 1,530-pound total as High but did so behind a 420-pound bench press — the most for any Indian thus far this season. Perez also added lifts of 550 and 560 pounds on the squat and deadlifts.

Devin Collins, of Ennis, was only other county lifter to take home the first-place hardware after his 1,570-pound total in the Super Heavyweight class. The Lion powerlifter used new season highs on all three lifts — 635, 335 and 600 pounds on the squat, bench press and deadlift — to move into the No. 2 spot in the Super Heavyweight division of Region 3. Waxahachie's Caleb Carlile is currently in the 12th and final spot in the Heavyweight division for the region after his fifth-place finish Saturday. Much like several other lifters, Carlile recorded new season highs with 540, 325 and 510 pounds on the squat, bench press and deadlift, respectively.

According to the THSPA guidelines, any lifter ranked inside the top-12 of his respective weight class automatically qualifies for the regional meet Saturday, March 4 at Lindale High School. However, there is still one weekend of last-minute meets to go, as the final regional rankings will not be released until Monday, Feb. 27.

The gymnasium for the regional meet is located at 920 East Hubbard in Lindale.
