Mary Jean Davis died peacefully on February 11, 2017. She was born November 23, 1923, to A. Dupree and Mary Ethel Sharp Davis in Waxahachie, Texas. She graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1941 and Abilene Christian College in 1944 and received a Master’s degree in Business Education from East Texas State Teacher’s College.
She taught shorthand in Marfa, Texas, and then worked at the FBI for a few years. She was then employed at Mobil Oil Corporation in Beaumont, Texas, for 35 years, retiring in 1985. She enjoyed traveling, reading and playing bridge. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of 1812 and Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
She is survived by her nephew, Robert Davis of Houston, TX, nieces Susan Crittenden of Emory, TX, Cathy Peterson of Collierville, TN, Mary Lynne Hanf of Oklahoma City, OK, and Linda Wertz of Dallas, TX, and three great nephews and one niece. She was predeceased by her parents, and her brothers, A. Dupree Davis, Jr. and Bob G. Davis.
She was a member of the Ridgewood Church of Christ in Beaumont. She will be buried in Myrtle Cemetery in Ennis, TX, alongside her parents. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 18 at 11:00 am.
