WAXAHACHIE — At each and every campus in the Waxahachie school district, a backstop or even three can be found. For many years, these backstops have served the public, which has left some wear and tear. After noticing a need, the Waxahachie Lions Club made a $9,400 donation to WISD for new baseball and softball, or even kickball, backstops.
“The money we are donating was raised at the carnival we hosted on WISD property, and what better way to use these funds that to bring them back into the school district,” Waxahachie Lions Club member Kenneth Denny said.
The presentation was made Tuesday, Jan. 24 at the Lions Club weekly luncheon. Each backstop will feature the Lions Club logo on it.
“It’s exciting to see the City of Waxahachie, WISD, and the Lions Club come together on a project that will benefit a lot of kids in the district for a long time. The amount of students and parents that use them is immeasurable,” WISD Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Glenn said. “We feel fortunate that the Lions Club stepped up to make this donation. We’re excited that it will help future generations of kids for years to come play out on these fields.”
Denny noted that this donation is an example of the partnership the club has with the school district.
