ROCKETT — A Red Oak resident is listed in critical condition after she was struck crossing the road Saturday evening in front of Rockett Cafe. First responders were dispatched at about 7:30 p.m. to the 5700 block of Farm-to-Market Road 813 to an auto-versus-pedestrian crash call.

“Preliminary investigation shows that the pedestrian, 62-year-old Carolina Hoffman of Red Oak, was crossing the road from the west to the east, toward the Rockett Café when a 2015 white Toyota Corolla, driven by 18-year-old Stormy Engledow of Red Oak, struck Mrs. Hoffman for an as yet undetermined reason,” said DPS Public Information Officer Sgt. Sara Warren. “Mrs. Hoffman was flown by air ambulance to Dallas Methodist Hospital in Dallas with life-threatening injuries.”

Warren said Engledow was not injured in the accident. The accident remains under investigation as of press time by DPS.

*Editor's note: The original article, which first ran in the Daily Light print edition Tuesday, Jan. 24, stated Hoffman died as a result of injuries from the accident. It has now been corrected to show she was critically injured with "life-threatening injuries."
