MIDLOTHIAN — A Venus resident lost his life early Thursday morning in a motorcycle accident. Emergency crews were dispatched at about 6:18 a.m. to the 3500 block of W. U.S. Highway 287.
“The motorcycle was traveling westbound on 287. I don’t know the exact reason now, but it struck a flatbed wrecker. It killed the driver instantly,” Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Jackie Miller Jr. said. “The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Midlothian Police Department.”
Miller was called out to the scene at 6:26 a.m. and pronounced the rider of the motorcycle deceased at 7:30 a.m. Miller then ordered the body to be taken to the Dallas County Medical Examiners Office for a full autopsy.
According to the Midlothian Police Department’s Facebook page, the investigation into the accident is still ongoing at this time. Single lanes were getting through, and there was an intermittent temporary lane closure for approximately two hours.
Providing assistance on the call were members of the Midlothian Fire Department. Midlothian Assistant Fire Phillip Brancato said when firefighters arrived on scene they found the rider had injuries that were incapable of sustaining life. Firefighters then assisted the police department, helped with traffic control, checked for hazards and secured the vehicles involved. The last fire department unit cleared the scene at 9:04 a.m.
