OVILLA — Seventeen Finley and Howard Junior High cross country runners set a new personal record during Saturday's Ovilla Eagles Cross Country Invitational.
The Lady Warriors finished runners-up behind four of the 17 PRs and Alyson Moore's second-place finish, while the boys set the remaining 13 individual bests en route to their meet championship.
"This was awesome for the kids and is a reflection of their hard work in practice," Finley Junior High cross country coach Amanda DeLeon said. "They put in a lot of time and sweat throughout the week, so it is nice to see it all payoff and I know they are excited."
Moore set the pace for the Lady Warriors with a 13:21. Fellow eighth-grade Lady Warriors Ellinor Bearden (14th, 14:54) and Emma Pickard (17:58), along with seventh-grade runners Charley Hearron (5th, 14:10) and Cori Morgan (7th, 14:23) all set new PRs in the runner-up finish.
On the boys' side, the only thing more impressive than the six personal records set by eighth graders was the seven by the seventh-grade Warriors.
Eighth graders Brody Townley (5th, 12:44), Eric Dyke (6th, 12:51) and Ethan Brown (17th, 13:22), were joined by seventh-grader Warriors Parker Hicks (18th, 13:27), as the four top-20 finishers. All four set personal high-water marks, as well.
Joining in the Warrior individual successes were eighth-grade Warriors Andrew Galbraith (13:45), Felix Saunders (14:52) and Landon Jones (15:09). On the seventh-grade side were personal records set by Santino Saunders (14:53), Hunter Melton (15:55, Israel Solis (16:46), Cade Ferry (17:19), Lucas Molina (17:00) and Drake Sell (17:30).
