WAXAHACHIE — For frequent visitors of Minyard Food Stores the change thus far has been minimal. In fact, outside of a small, copy-paper sign taped to an old free-standing display inside the automatic sliding glass doors, there has is little else informing shoppers of an overhaul.
An overhaul that is most certainly happening.
When Fiesta Mart, L.L.C announced the acquisition of 11 Minyard Food Stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex from RLS Supermarkets, L.L.C. on July 7, it did so without disclosing the exact location of the stores acquired or the rollout plan. One of those stores receiving a facelift, however, is the Minyard Food Store located at 610 Ferris Ave. in Waxahachie.
"We are excited to welcome Minyard Food Stores to the Fiesta family. This action reinforces the strategic growth plan we put forth early last year," said Michael Byars, Fiesta CEO, in a July 7 statement. "Our entire Fiesta team has worked together to move the brand forward organically, and now through acquisition, we continue on our growth plan."
According to local Minyard management, the crossover process will not interrupt services to shoppers. There was a two-day period where the store closed in early August for the inventory to be taken, but that is the only planned closure, the management team stated.
The change to Fiesta is, to the best of their knowledge, expected to be completed during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons.
As far as a change in pricing, a current Minyard manager said he had not been informed of when that will take place or how different it will be.
Where'd the party start?
Fiesta is a "specialty grocery retailer known for its international offerings that cater to the diverse communities served by their stores," the store's July announcement reads. "[...] The newly acquired Minyard store locations will continue to be supplied by current supplier AWG, along with Fiesta's supplier, Grocery Supply. The Minyard stores will be transitioning to Fiesta over the next several months."
Purchased by ACON Investments, L.L.C. in 1996, Fiesta is a Texas-based food retailer founded in 1972 by Donald Bonham and O.C. Mendenhall and based in Houston.
Byars noted the supermarkets' mission is to "provide consumers the freshest quality products and extensive assortment, at the value, they need to celebrate food and family every day" in its 70 locations.
According to Fiesta's July release, the store serves customers "from over 100 countries of origin with a vast variety of dry grocery and perishable products. Fiesta provides quality meat, seafood, grocery, fresh produce, dairy products, beer, fine wines and an international and specialty foods section offering products from around the globe."
