ENNIS — The 50th Anniversary of the National Polka Festival in Ennis will be held Memorial Day weekend, May 27-29.
Ennis’ Czech heritage is celebrated to the hilt as visitors can listen or dance to a variety of bands playing traditional polkas in three spacious auditoriums as well as enjoy the activities in downtown Ennis!
The festival also includes an All Star King and Queen Dance featuring past King and Queen winners, a 30th Anniversary King and Queen dance, the Rotary Club of Ennis’ Polkafest Run, a 10K, 5K and 1 mile fun run and info for this race can be found at www.polkafestrun.com, giant parade, Czech food, free shuttle buses, arts/crafts, kolache eating contest, horseshoefest tournament, three Czech dance halls, and over 19 live polka bands this year including Brave Combo, and special country concert Saturday night featuring Super Group, Lonestar, with special guest Jamie Richards. This year’s parade theme is “Polka is Golden.” The official hashtag for this year’s festival is #EnnisPolka2016. Emcee at the opening ceremony at 11 am on Saturday in downtown Ennis will be Monica Hernandez, of WFAA-Channel 8, and the Grand Marshal of the parade will be David Frous, Head of the Political Section, Embassy of the Czech Republic.
