The Brown Street Church of Christ in Waxahachie will be honoring first responders for their service Saturday morning.

The First Responders Breakfast will go from 6 to 8:30 a.m.

“This is our 25th year doing this for local first responders. They go out of their way to help others. We just want to show our appreciation,” Community Outreach Deacon Chad Fletcher said. “We all have a civic duty of some sort and these people choose to do it as their profession. We are just grateful for that.”

The event is free and open to any first responders who want to attend. No registration is required. The menu for the breakfast includes pancakes, waffles, bacon, eggs, sausage and biscuits and gravy.

Last year, the church served about 50-60 first responders who were either coming on or about to start their shift.

Fletcher, who has volunteered with this event in the past, said he really enjoys the opportunity to visit and to get to know the people who protect and serve the community. The event provides residents a chance to get a little bit of a perspective into what those responders do throughout the day but also gives them a quit moment to relax.

An event like this warms the heart because a person can feel the support for the job first responders do, said Don Alexander, Waxahachie Fire Department Battalion Chief.

“They get up before sunrise and start cooking. It is great to see the support from the community. It really makes you feel good that you know that people realize that we are there for them,” Alexander said. “We look forward to it. The guys get up early. The shift that is going off duty, we get them up early and go out there. There is always plenty to eat. They are always really appreciative. It makes you feel good that you are in this profession and makes you proud to be in this profession.”

Fletcher said while donations for the breakfast are not needed, if residents wish to volunteer their time, they can do so by contacting him at 214-636-0487. The church is located at 2471 Brown St. in Waxahachie.
