ENNIS — An inmate arrested at a local baseball complex for public intoxication and possession of a dangerous drug died in police custody sometime between Monday evening and Tuesday morning.

At approximately 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, 30-year-old Joshua Krajca was discovered deceased in his jail cell, according to a press release issued by the Ennis Police Department. Krajca had been arrested at 9:30 p.m. Monday and placed in jail at the Ennis Police Department pending arraignment.

Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Bill Woody was called out to the jail and pronounced Krajca dead at 6:30 a.m. Krajca’s body was taken to the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office for a full autopsy. Woody said results from the autopsy have not been released yet and would be available in six to eight weeks because a toxicology test will be performed to determine how much of a drug might be in Krajca’s system.

At the request of Ennis Police Chief John Erisman, the investigation into Krajca’s death is being conducted by the Texas Rangers. This story is ongoing. Check back for more.
