Waxahachie police arrested Avalon resident Anthony Kirk Bolton, 23, after a single-vehicle wreck on Wednesday evening.
Bolton was arrested on the charges of possession of a controlled substance and driving while license invalid. Emergency responders were dispatched at 6:08 p.m. to the southbound service road of Interstate Highway 35E near Butcher Road.
“This is an ongoing investigation. As far as the accident, he was going southbound on the service road, approaching Butcher. He (the driver) said an 18-wheeler pulled out. He swerved offed into the ditch to avoid the 18-wheeler. It caused his truck to roll,” Waxahachie police officer Abe Partington said on scene. “The driver is being taken into custody for a suspended license and some narcotics.”
Partington said Bolton’s Dodge pickup truck rolled through the median into the bridge pillar. Members of the Texas Department of Transportation were called out to the scene to inspect the bridge for damage and damage to the guardrails. Members of the Waxahachie Fire Department were called out to the scene to provide assistance.
Capt. Jeff Marrs said Bolton was still inside the vehicle when crews arrived on scene. After assessing the situation, firefighters assisted Bolton out of the truck.
Bolton remained in custody as of press time Thursday at the Wayne McColumn Detention Center, with bonds totaling $4,000.
