The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office Explorers Post took home first place overall honors during the third annual Dallas Police Explorer Battle at Big D competition at Fair Park on April 2.

The Battle of Big D competition is an invitation-only meet of 24, four-member teams that each took part in four skills-based scenarios. This year’s meet featured scenarios on active shooter, DWI, robbery in progress and domestic violence.

Representing the ECSO Explorers were its Green team of Capt. Gage Adams, Sgt. Shelby Snodgress, Cpl. Noel Campbell and Remigio Gomez. The Green team was awarded first place overall honors based upon its scenario scores of first place in active shooter, first in domestic disturbance, second in DWI and second in robbery in progress.

Also representing the ECSO Explorers was its Red team of Lt. Ross McRee, Tristan McQueen, Courtney Cline and Everett Bias. The Red team was honored with first place in the DWI scenario and third place in the active shooter scenario.

“I’ve seen most of these kids grow from ‘rookies’ to ‘veterans,’” said Deputy and Explorer Advisor Ella Pollins, who has worked with the post since 2011. “They’re very hard working and dedicated young adults and I was proud of them for accomplishing their goal. These kids are something else and they make me very proud to be their advisor.”

Added Deputy and Explorer Advisor Hunter Barnes, “I’m so proud of these kids; all the hard work has paid off. With continued training and dedication we look forward to the state competition.”
