Saturday, April 16, we are celebrating the Grand Opening of the 2016 season of the Waxahachie Downtown Farmers Market!

Come celebrate the foods, flavors, crafts and fun of the market. We have a number of new sellers along with many of your favorite vendors from past years.

All of the downtown area will be celebrating with a Music and Art Festival so look for artists and live music at the market.

Mid April is an ideal time to plant vegetables, flowers and herbs. Come check out the great selection of plants and flowers for sale, ready to go into your garden or set on your front porch. It has been a mild winter so we are hoping for early vegetables in abundance.

Visit our crafters. Welcome our new sellers. We have added handmade clothing, fabric crafts, coffee, lots of eggs, local beef, and more.

Stop by the Ellis County Master Gardener booth for the latest Texas A&M information on growing you own garden. The master gardeners have added a new feature to the market. Look for their white pop-up tent with benches and a featured speaker. This month’s topic of discussion will be How to Successfully Grow Tomatoes in Texas. The pop-up horticulture will run from 9 a.m. to noon on the third Saturday of every month.

Carrots and peas are making a showing in the vegetable garden right now along with cilantro and dill. Here is a delicious and easy spring time recipe.


Honey Dilled Carrots

3 cups carrots, peeled and sliced

2 Tbs. butter

2 Tbs. local honey

1 1/2 Tbs. chopped fresh dill

Salt & pepper

Put carrots in a saucepan with just enough water to cover. Bring to a boil and simmer until the water has evaporated and carrots are tender. Add the butter and honey. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
