Scarborough Renaissance Festival in Waxahachie goes Celtic this weekend, April 16 trough 17, with the Shandon O’Regan School of Irish Dancers performing each day at 2 p.m. on the Whimsey Stage.

Each day will also include Celtic special events such as the Bonnie Knees Contest at 11 a.m., Tug O’War at 3 p.m. and the Scottish Egg Eating contest at 4 p.m.

There is interactive fun for everyone at Scarborough Renaissance Festival as you step back in time to the 16th century days of King Henry VIII. Twenty-three stages of extraordinary non-stop entertainment, full combat jousting, Birds of Prey exhibitions, the Grande Parade, Renaissance rides, games of skills, plus mermaids, knighting ceremonies, a human chess match, more than 150 costumed performers and so much more!

Guest entertainers this weekend (April 16 and 17) include “The London Broil Show,” “Topsy Turvy” and “Queen Anne’s Lace.”

Scarborough Renaissance Festival is one of the largest outdoor juried craft shows in the country offering an incredible shopping experience with exquisite hand-made crafts in more than 200 shoppes. Plus, artisans demonstrate a variety of age-old crafts throughout each day of the festival.

Visitors are invited to discover new shoppes such as “Lady of the Lake Silks,” “The Knarly Knot,” “Sea Glass Gypsy” and “Namesake Henna” along with guest Artisans “Skiddlyrumpus Toys” and “Thistle & Gunn.”

“Celtic weekend is an especially fun weekend at Scarborough Renaissance Festival and is one of our patrons’ favorite themed weekends,” said Coy Sevier, general manager. “Visitors can bring out their inner Celt with the help of our special entertainment line-up, Celtic games and contests, the Celtic clans and of course a lot of kilts!”

The April 16 and 17 daily wine tastings will feature the wines of France and the daily beer tastings will feature the beers of the English Isles. The tastings sell out fast, so it is recommend that you purchase tasting tickets in advance.

Scarborough Renaissance Festival 2016 runs every Saturday and Sunday (and Memorial Day Monday) through May 30. Each weekend has a different theme and a variety of special events.

Upcoming theme weekends include the Royal Ale Festival on April 23 and 24 and the Artisan’s Showcase Weekend on April 30 and May 1. April 30 is also Deaf Awareness Day at the festival.

Located in Waxahachie, Scarborough Renaissance Festival is located on FM 66 off of I-35E at exit 399A.

Admission is $25 for adults and $10 for children, ages 5-12. Children age 4 and under are admitted free. Parking is free compliments of Waxahachie Autoplex. Tickets are available on-line and discount tickets can be purchased at Tom Thumb & Albertsons stores.
