Downtown Merchants Association to host special event Saturday
Music and arts will fill the streets of downtown Waxahachie to encourage people to get out and enjoy the talents of local creators.
The Waxahachie Music ‘N Art Walk will be taking place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown. Artists and musicians will be assembled throughout around the downtown business district showcasing their talents and abilities. The event is free and open to the public to attend.
“This is the second annual Music ‘N Art Walk. We will have musicians ands artists scattered about downtown. It will allow the community to come down and listen to some live music,” said Ginny Sills, Waxahachie Downtown Merchants Association Secretary. “Checkout some of our local artists work and have the opportunity to support them with purchasing their art. Some musicians may have CD’s that will be available for sale as well. So it is just to encourage and cultivate the art that we have down here and in Ellis County.”
Sills said the event was well received by the public, artists and musicians who participated in the event last year.
“Unfortunately, last year we had a little bit of precipitation in the mix. But even with that, it did not dampen anyone spirits and was well received by all. We knew we wanted to do this again. Again, we have many local artist and musicians,” Sills said. “We are encouraging artists to work in their medium if they can. Some mediums makes it easier to set up and do that. Other mediums require a little bit more preparation so they might not be able to show.”
Artists and musicians who wish to take part in this event can still sign up. Participants are asked to dedicate at least two hours of their time. There is no fee to sign up. For more information about the event or which to take part, contact Sills at 972-278-4066.
“Again it (the lineup) will change throughout the day with different artists and musicians coming and performing. Some will stay the whole time. It is a great time for people to get out and walk about. The Farmers' Market is opening this Saturday as well. So there is no reason why folks can’t come to downtown Waxahachie to checkout the Farmers' Market on its opening day and then stay for the Music ‘N Art Walk,” Sills said. “We have got a neat thing down here. We want to encourage out community to come down and shop the shops and support our small businesses. For the Music ‘N Art Walk, we hope that this will become an even bigger event through the years as we get more artisans participating in it. We look for this to become a larger event.”
