Rom Dewitt Young, Jr. joined his beloved wife of 63 years, Peggie, on April 6, 2016. Rom was born May 19, 1926 in DeSoto, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents Rom and Minnie Young, one of the founding families of DeSoto and daughter Margaret Ann. Rom had one brother and three sisters, all of whom preceded him in death. He has three children, Mike, Mary Kate and Pat Young, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

In prior years he was a dedicated employee of what was once Texas Industries then became TXI as Chief Chemist and later headed up projects in the research and development area. He retired on January 18, 2001 after 41 years of employment but continued on a consulting basis for some time after. Rom applied and was granted six patents for processes that are utilized today in the TXI facilities. He received many accolades and awards for his work on innovative ideas, one of which he received from the President with acknowledgement from the Governor of Texas for processes that enabled TXI to be in line with environmental guidelines.
