The Waxahachie city council approved a site plan and a replat of a lot for a new Panera Bread restaurant at its Monday night meeting.
The new restaurant will be located at 1319 N. U.S. Highway 77.
City Planning Director Darren Groth said the new development would be built on a portion of Home Depot’s existing parking lot. The interior of the restaurant is 4,302 square-feet with a 687 square-foot patio. The outside of the building will be a mixture of brick and stone.
“They did submit a landscape plan. There are some existing trees that were probably required when Home Depot went in. They requested to replace those existing Crape Myrtles with dwarf Crape Myrtles,”Groth said. “Those will be planted where the existing ones are to provide visibility. They are also landscaping around their building as well.”
Groth said Panera officials have not indicated when they are going to break ground on the construction. The next step in the process will be for Panera to submit construction plans to the city and obtain a building permit.
According to the restaurant's website, the eatery has a wide variety of menu items that range from freshly baked breads, pastries, soups, salads, paninis and sandwiches. As of Dec. 29, Panera has 1, 972 bakery cafes in 46 states, along with Washington D.C., and in Ontario, Canada.
“I think that Panera is going do great here. I think that it is another step in what we have to offer from a retail standpoint,” City Manager Paul Stevens said. “Panera has a great reputation and great food. They will certainly be fine addition to Waxahachie.”
