The driver of a motorcycle was transported by helicopter after a single-vehicle accident Friday evening.
Emergency crews were dispatched at about 5:30 p.m. to the 2200 block of U.S. Highway 287 Business.
“He was coming southbound on 287 toward town. The reports are that he was not paying attention and someone stopped to turn right there in front of Landmark Equipment,” said John Rodgers, the Waxahachie Fire Department Battalion Chief. “He could not stop in time. He elected to lay the motorcycle down in the ditch to avoid hitting the person in front of him. As a result, when he laid the bike down, he hit his head and had a head injury.”
Rodgers said a landing zone for the CareFlite helicopter was set up on U.S. Highway 287 Business.
This caused the traffic to be diverted onto Ovilla Road. The driver of the motorcycle was taken by CareFlite to Methodist Dallas Medical Center. Firefighters remained on scene for 40 minutes before returning to the station.
