Elizabeth Anne (Betty) Weldon died on Wednesday, March 23, 2016. She was an active member of the local community in Waxahachie for 40 years, volunteering at the Baylor Hospital Auxiliary and Soul's Harbor, and participating in many arts and historical organizations, including the Chautauqua Preservation Society, Waxahachie Community Theater, the Symphony and Art Associations, the Heirloom Club, Historic Waxahachie, and the Ellis County Museum. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
She was born in Evanston, Illinois, on Dec. 14,1928, to Philip and Eda Fetz Prugh of Xenia, Ohio, where she attended grade school and graduated from Xenia High, class of 1946. She attended Ohio Wesleyan and Ohio State University, from which she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, and she obtained her teaching certification from the University of Texas - Austin.
She was employed as a commercial artist at the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology, Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio, as well as at CMJ Corporation, Bethpage, Long Island, New York. She was a teaching assistant in the art department at UT Austin, and she taught art at the junior high level in Austin.
She is survived by her husband, Fred Weldon; her son, Stephen, and his wife, Tomoko Yoshida; her two granddaughters Karen Weldon of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Julia Weldon of Oberlin, Ohio; and her nephew, David Prugh, of Sarasota, Florida.
A graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery at 10 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2016. The pallbearers are Kirk Hunter, Ron Watkins, Becky Kauffrnan, Steve McKinney, Doug Henning, Jim Farmer, Larry Wells and Fred Hekking. A reception following the service will be held at the Ellis County Woman's Building, 407 W. Jefferson Street, Waxahachie.
