ENNIS — Four people were transported to area hospitals after sustaining injures from a two-vehicle accident on Saturday.

Emergency responders were dispatched at 3:07 p.m. to the 800 block of East Ennis Ave.

“One car was in the ditch with two patients still inside,” Ennis Fire Department Fire Marshal Chad Wester said. “So they had to extricate one of the two occupants from the vehicle. They used the hydraulic spreaders and cutters to gain access to the vehicle.”

Wester said two for the four patients were children and were taken by AMR ground ambulance to Children’s Medical Center of Dallas. Air Evac and PHI Air Medical flew the other two patients to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas by helicopter. Firefighters set up a landing zone for the helicopter.

Wester said the roadway was closed for a couple of hours. Units cleared the scene at 5 p.m. and returned to the station. The Ennis Police Department is investigating accident. Calls were made to the police department, but were not returned as of press time.
