The Waxahachie Foundation presented Common Ground Ministries with an oversized check of $10,000 on Thursday, Feb. 10.
For 43 years, the foundation has been awarding grants to worthy causes in the Waxahachie area.
The grant recipient, Common Ground Ministries, is a Christian outreach to children and youth in Waxahachie, whose mission is to provide a safe and structured environment for children and youth and to meet their spiritual, educational and physical needs.
“This $10,000 check will enable Common Ground Ministries to purchase a much needed van that will be used to transport children and volunteers. Our foundation is honored to have this opportunity to support such a worthy cause,” said Bob Dyess, president and trustee for the Waxahachie Foundation.
Common Ground Ministries began its work in 1991 and is located at 604 E. Parks Ave., off of Kaufman St. Its office hours are from 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
When students arrive from school they first have a nutritious snack and then a supervised homework period. They then receive instruction and take part in indoor or outdoor recreational activities. Volunteer tutors work with individual students, with a spokesman noting that volunteers are always needed.
