Food substitution is an excellent way to enjoy the foods you love most while making the dish healthier. There are many ways to create healthy alternatives to some of our favorite—not so healthy— meals by sub stituting an ingredient or two. These substitutes won’t sacrifice the flavor of the dish, so let’s explore some alternatives.

Forget happy, let’s focus on being real

A guy told me the other day, “I think Christians ought to be happy people.” This comment was then posted on Facebook and got about a jillion “likes,” so it must be true. I want to agree but then I think, what about the days when we are not so happy? Maybe “happy” is not the right word, maybe the right word is “real.” Christians ought to be real.

Good guys with guns?

“I believe in Jesus, guns and babies.” So declares Kandiss Taylor, GOP candidate for governor of Georgia, in a campaign ad. Or how about: “I’m Eric Greitens, Navy SEAL, and today, we’re going RINO-hunting.” This is not about killing rhinoceroses.

Some might read that and say to themselves, “Well, of course. That’s a no-brainer. I would never do that.” At closer inspection though, how many people do we all know who work for bosses or companies who exhibit qualities that are unbecoming or downright negative?

Putin attempts to justify the unjustifiable

The Russian government’s justifications for its war in Ukraine the largest, most destructive military operation in Europe since World War II are not persuasive. Although, in defending the Russian invasion, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s primary emphasis has been on the threat of Ukraine joining NATO, that action, had it occurred, would have been perfectly legitimate under international law.

Embracing the complexity of peace

“Just imagine for once if we led the world in funding peace and not wars.” Just imagine! The words are those of Robert Weissman, president of the organization Public Citizen, in response to the legislative efforts of Reps. Barbara Lee and Mark Pocan, who are the co-chairs of – glory hallelujah! – the Defense Spending Reduction Caucus.
