So, it being after Thanksgiving and all the chaos and anxiety that we endure in the annual torrent of consuming in a manner more than we deem as necessary to gift people around us to show we love them and hope they still like us after opening their presents, that I decided to forgo the early game and put up the Christmas lights on the house before it was suggested. That pay it forward thing.
For the past 39 years, I’ve devoted a column to help folks shop for those useful but sometimes hard to find gifts for the sportsmen (and women) on their Christmas shopping list. Many of the items I highlight are not available on the shelves of the larger package stores but there’s still time to order online.

On the quest to raising good humans, I realize that most people tend to use the holidays as a teachable time for kids. We encourage the need to do good for others who might have less than we do as we donate food, toys, money and help in our communities and beyond.
In what has most certainly been one of the most unusual years in memory, the nation will mark Thanksgiving once again on this Fourth Thursday in November. It is part of a long tradition that has spanned many generations.
Now amongst the resulting carnage left on the fields of a venting of the insecurities and egos we flog ourselves with every four years, we move forward into the continuation of our American journey.
