After a six-and-a-half-week search, the Italy Gladiators have found their new head football coach and athletic director. At a special called meeting on Wednesday, the Italy ISD board of trustees, upon the recommendation of superintendent Rachel Kistner, approved the hiring of Rowlett co-defensive coordinator Lee Wilkins to lead the Gladiator athletic program.
Thanks to some hustle by senior Makenae Stone, the Waxahachie Lady Indians are a win away from advancing to the area round of the Class 6A Region II playoffs for the first time in three years. Stone’s inside-the-park home run against a defensive shift in the bottom of the third inning staked the Lady Indians to an initial lead.
A former understudy of legendary Waxahachie head volleyball coach Sandy Faussett-Stoops is coming back home to her alma mater. Erika Weber, who has coached with distinction at nearby Midlothian Heritage the last three seasons, was announced this week as a new assistant volleyball coach at WHS.

Becker gets 2 1/2 years in prison for bankruptcy offenses LONDON – Tennis great Boris Becker was sentenced to 21/2 years in prison on Friday for illicitly transferring large amounts of money and hiding assets after he was declared bankrupt. The three-time Wimbledon champion was convicted earlier this month on four charges under the Insolvency Act and had faced a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.
