OVILLA — The Ovilla Christian School Eagles overcame a two-run deficit with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and beat Fort Worth Temple Christian, 9-8, on Tuesday night for the 500th win for longtime head coach Greg Hayes.
Maypearl ISD will have a new head football coach and athletic director this fall following the resignation of Sam Riepe after four seasons. But Riepe is staying close to home, as he will become the defensive coordinator at Life High School Waxahachie.
HEWITT — The Waxahachie Indians will be sending one representative to next weekend’s University Interscholastic League state track and field championships. Senior Josh Harris won the gold medal in the triple jump this past weekend at the Class 6A Region II meet at Midway Panther Stadium.
RED OAK — The Red Oak Lady Hawks bounced back in a big way as they staved off elimination with a 12-5 victory over North Forney on Friday, and rolled to an 11-1 six-inning rout in the deciding Game 3 on Saturday to win the best-of-three bi-district playoff series.
Ellis County will be well-represented in the University Interscholastic League state track and field championships next weekend with more than a dozen entrants. In Class 5A, Midlothian High School will send three athletes and Ennis High School will send one to Mike A.
The Waxahachie Lady Indians have received a number of state honors from the Texas High School Coaches Association and the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches. Junior midfielder Amiyah Carter was named second-team all-region and was named to both the TASCO and THSCA academic all-state team.
Ben Bills was brilliant on the pitcher's mound in game one of the Sunday doubleheader against Bacone. The righthander threw a no-hitter to lead SAGU past Bacone 9-0. The Lions kept their momentum in Game 2, taking the game 10-3 and completing the fourgame sweep.
The Waxahachie Indians closed out the 2022 regular season with a 3-0 shutout victory over the DeSoto Eagles on Friday night, but will have to settle for the No. 4 seed out of District 11-6A after a 6-5 tiebreaker loss to Mansfield High on Saturday afternoon at Ronnie Clanton Field in Midlothian.
TEMPLE — The Waxahachie Lady Indians entered the final day of their Class 6A Region II bi-district series against Temple needing just one more win to advance — but host Temple beat the Lady Indians twice, 6-0 and 6-4, on Saturday to move on to the area round.
