Noland returns home for basketball camp

Waxahachie High School graduate and Oklahoma standout basketball player CJ Noland is back home to contribute to the success of other hoops youth from his hometown. Noland, who was the 2021 Ellis County High School Sports Awards basketball boys’ Player of the Year and a 2020 finalist, announced on social media that the first “It’s Up” basketball camp of what he plans to be an annual event will take place next Saturday, July 16, at WHS’ Mike Turner Gymnasium.

Fishing is great at Lake Ray Hubbard

As guide Brandon Sargent eased his big guide boat out of the breakwaters at Sapphire Bay Marina on Lake Ray Hubbard, the sun was just beginning to light up the eastern sky. Mike Hall, the manager of the marina and I were eagerly anticipating the red hot crappie bite Brandon and his customers had been enjoying the past few days. Our plan was to get on the water early while the temperature was still pleasant, catch our fish and be back at dock my mid morning.
