SAGU’s Woodley, Burcham earn SAC honors

Southwestern Assemblies of God University’s Kieran Woodley notched his fifth career Sooner Athletic Conference special teams player of the week award, the Lions announced Wednesday. Woodley, a senior from Apttos, Calif., converted all his kicks in Southwestern Assemblies of God’s 27-0 victory over Louisiana Christian on Saturday in Waxahachie.

TENNIS INDIANS DEFEAT DUNCANVILLE

The Waxahachie High School tennis team remained undefeated in District 11-6A play with a win at Duncanville on Tuesday afternoon, 12-7. The Indians opened district play on Aug. 23 with a 17-2 win over Cedar Hill, and their Aug. 30 match against DeSoto was canceled. Their next match will be Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. against Mansfield Legacy at WHS.

Tribe wakes up in second half, routs Arlington Lamar

The Waxahachie Indians showed Friday night against Arlington Lamar how much defense and special teams can take the pressure off an offense. For the second week in a row, the Indians’ defenders were on display as they — along with some critical mistakes by the Vikings’ special teams — kept the offense on a short field all night long in the Tribe’s 50-7 non-district victory at Lumpkins Stadium.
