Independence Day celebrations ahead

After a two-year hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic Waxahachie will once again celebrate Independence Day with the 24th annual Crape Myrtle Festival and Parade. The free event, which is hosted by the city of Waxahachie, the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce and the city’s Crape Myrtle Council, will kick off with a tailgate party at 6 p.m.

New name, same mission

A longtime nonprofit in Waxahachie announced the next chapter of its mission this past week by unveiling its new name. Hope Clinic, which has provided comprehensive healthcare services for families in Ellis County since 1999, will now be called Hope Health.

WISD participates in Juneteenth ceremony

Representatives from Waxahachie ISD and the city of Waxahachie attended a Juneteenth celebration Tuesday hosted by community partner John Houston Homes. Bishop Aaron Blake provided a basic history of Juneteenth, along with a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation. Other leaders led attendees in remembrance for lives lost due to racism and evil.
