An Uvalde police officer asked for a supervisor’s permission to shoot the gunman who would soon kill 21 people at Robb Elementary School in May before he entered the building, but the supervisor did not hear the request or responded too late, according to a report released Wednesday evaluating the law enforcement response to the shooting.

The Waxahachie City Council on Tuesday approved a resolution that provides guidelines for naming city-owned facilities. This comes nearly a year after an effort was made to get facility-naming guidelines in place, though the item was never brought to the council for a vote.

The Waxahachie City Council approved an agreement with TxDOT on Tuesday that will begin the right-of-way acquisition process for land needed for the FM 664 project. TxDOT plans to improve and expand FM 664 to six lanes with a center median.
The Waxahachie Police Department’s K-9 team of Officer Farmer and Mattis recently participated in the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) competition and won first place in Narcotics Detection in Rooms and Vehicles. The team is headed to Nationals in September to become nationally certified and compete once again. USPCA is a nationally accredited organization to certify working dogs for departments to work on the street. The main goal is to certify police service dogs in narcotics and patrol work to work the street. During the certifications they grade and score each handler and the service dogs. Starting Monday the City of Waxahachie Street Department will be crack sealing the asphalt in the downtown Waxahachie area. This process helps to prevent larger maintenance problems down the road.
