The mesquite tree, love it or hate it!

Everything in the natural world serves a purpose. That purpose might not always be easy to identify but everything from a lowly earthworm to a giraffe fits into a unique slot in the big scheme of things. Take the mesquite tree for instance. To many ranchers it’s just a needless plant that sucks water from the soil and quickly covers land that could be used for grazing cattle.

Time to retire the cake pans after 48 years of baking

They say that “all good things must come to an end,” and so has the legendary “Cake Lady’s” tenure in the Ellis and Dallas County areas where people knew her and loved her baking creations. No one wanted just any little old cake back in the day – they wanted a “Linda Ashley Cake.” This talented cake artist and decorator – Linda Ashley – age 79, has lived in Lancaster since her parents moved to her hometown in 1958.
