To the Editor,

IMPACT Waxahachie would like to thank those that participated in the Prescription Drug Take Back Event this past Saturday. The Waxahachie location exceeded previous collection totals by collecting 475 pounds of unused and expired prescription and over-the-counter medications.

The purpose of the Prescription Drug Take Back event is to offer a (free) place to dispose of unused or expired medications quickly, safely and anonymously. Next to marijuana, the most common illegal drugs teens are using to get “high” are prescription medications, and home medicine cabinets are the number one point of access for these drugs. It is NOT SAFE for the environment to throw away or flush medications.

Many thanks to our partners in the event: Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, Waxahachie Police Department, WISD, and DPRI. Special thanks to Woodman Life for providing refreshments to the IMPACT Volunteers. Also, thanks to the Waxahachie Daily Light, KBEC, Ellis County Press, Prosperity Bank, Citizens National Bank, and the City of Waxahachie for helping to get the word out to the citizens of our community.

Shari Phillips,
