Julius Thomas Hayles
Oct. 25, 1928-
March 7, 2016
The only son of Julius A and Essie (Day) Hayles was born Oct. 25, 1928. Tommy passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on March 7, 2016.
Tommy was a man strong in his faith in God, and a devoted and loving husband to Lavell for 68 years. Together, they raised a family of five children, living first in Dallas and moving to Waxahachie where they have lived the last 40 years.
After graduating from Sunset HS in Dallas in 1946, he continued working at Sears & Roebuck offices on Lamar, when he took a military leave of absence to join the US Air Force in 1951. He proudly served his country as an aircraft mechanic and instructor, being stationed in Amarillo, Japan, Korea, and Albuquerque before coming home to resume his career at Sears. He progressed from warehouse runner to eventually becoming a catalog buyer, serving Sears for 45 years, retiring in 1989.
Tommy is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Andell and Hazel. He is survived by his loving wife, Lavell (Kenney) Hayles, his five children, Larry and wife Robin of Garland, Kevin and wife Gena of Gordon, GA, Paula Zavala and husband Oscar, Brent and wife Tanya, and Janet Holder and her husband John, all of Waxahachie. He is also survived by grandchildren Tony, Julia (husband Joshua), Justin, Jordan, Darren, Erynn, Haylee, Natalie, Jessica, Tia, Alyssa, Derek, Morgan, and Caleb, and great-grandchildren Alexys, Caitlyn, Connor, and Brynton.
Tommy and Lavell have chosen to donate their bodies to research, so no services are planned. Memorials may be made to the organization of your choice.
