The Board of Directors of Citizens National Bank of Texas have announced the appointment of R. Galen Kemp, M.D. as a director of the bank.

“Dr. Kemp has distinguished himself as an Ophthalmologist, church and civic leader and business entrepreneur. His education and corporate expertise will be an asset to our bank and our future,” said Mark Singleton, president and CEO of CNB of Texas.

Galen Kemp was born in Cleburne, Texas but grew up near Fort Worth and later Hillsboro. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas, Austin and then continued on to Southwestern Medical School where he attained his M.D. degree in 1979 and membership in Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society.

His internship was at Baylor University Medical Center in internal medicine followed by residency in the Ophthalmology Department at Parkland Memorial Hospital from 1980-1983. He was certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1984.

In 1983, Dr. Kemp opened his private practice in Waxahachie. His outstanding reputation in his field was honored when he was elected as president of the Texas Ophthalmological Association and was made a member of the advisory board of Zale Lipshy Laser Center.

The respect for his expertise and knowledge is best recognized by his teaching appointment at U.T. Southwestern Medical School where he has taught cataract surgery to residents in training as an Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology for the past 33 years.

“It is my understanding that Citizens National Bank of Texas is the oldest independent bank in the state of Texas. It is an honor to serve on a board that helps lead a bank with a 148-year heritage of giving back to the communities it serves,” said Dr. Kemp.

“Whether it is banking services or community involvement, I’m looking forward to being a member of a board of directors that truly makes a positive difference in so many people’s lives. It amazes me that CNB of Texas employees contribute more than 15,000 volunteer hours every year. I’m honored to be part of that team,” Dr. Kemp said.

Kemp has been married to his wife, Cindy, for 34 years and they have four daughters, Jennifer, Allison, Kathryn and Melissa.

Citizens National Bank of Texas has 12 banking facilities in nine communities. Its main bank is at 200 North Elm in Waxahachie.
