The Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce is hosting the first Ellis County Women’s Expo. The goal of the expo is to provide women with the resources to be successful business owners, successful in life and to be able to live a healthy life.
This new event replaces the annual Lifestyles, Business, Health and Wellness Expo that has been held for the past several years. The expo will take place March 5 at the Waxahachie Civic Center.
“The attendance has not been as strong as it has been in previous years. To go to an event, you want to see a return on your time. We just felt like we needed to change it up,” said Debra Wakeland, President and CEO of the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce. “We have just been seeing a lot of powerful and strong females leaders in the community. We throught why not do some programs to encourage some young women to attend.”
Wakeland said the event is going to have different programs throughout the day as well as workshop sessions. These programs and workshop sessions will educate attendees about resources for businesses, entrepreneurs, educational opportunities and health information. Representatives from Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Waxahachie will be on hand to provide information about preventive health measures women can take as well.
The expo will also feature a job fair put on by members of the Texas Workforce Commission. Workforce staff members will be on hand to help job seekers in a variety of ways like how to create a resume or do a job interview.
“I think the Lifestyles Expo was wonderful and a very successful event, but just moving forward we wanted to add something new and something different in Waxahachie and in Ellis County,” said Jonna Morgan, Chamber of Commerce Membership Director. “You can bring everyone in the family. You can bring grandma, grandpa, the kiddos — everybody. It is not going to exclude the other sex, but it is geared toward the ladies. It will definitely be a lot of women’s speakers and thing like that. But gentleman and kids are definitely welcome. We don’t want to seem like we are excluding anybody because we are definitely not trying to do that.”
Morgan said men attending the event might enjoy even seeing a demonstration of big green egg smoker.
Wakeland said the event would feature more than 100 vendors with a wide range of products and services on display. The expo will not only feature educational and informational opportunities, but also information on topics that are a little lighthearted like bridal items, beauty items and how to dress for success.
