Life High School’s varsity Mustangs won the Edgewood High School tournament championship on Dec. 5 at Earl J. Wilke Gymnasium after wins against Venus, Kerens, Blooming Grove, Paradise, Rice and Commerce high schools. Perhaps most impressive was the way in which the Mustangs took home the tourney title. Before defeating Commerce 73-48 to capture the championship, the Mustangs averaged a 30.3 points per game win margin during the three-day tournament, winning by as much as 40 points and never less than 23. The Mustangs were led by junior point guard Daniel Nguyen, sophomore small forward Justin Nimmer, sophomore center Joshua Sanders and senior shooting guard Kensen Vaughan. Nyguen was unanimously voted the tournaments Most Valuable Player and Nimmer, Sanders and Vaughan were named to the Edgewood All-Tournament team.
