National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 1191 members learned about a health insurance option opening soon

The NARFE held its monthly meeting on Oct. 13 at Cancun's Ameri-Mex Restaurant in Waxahachie. Guest speakers included Sandy Esquivel with AETNA Federal Health Plans and Tim Mallard with Government Employees Health Association (GEHA) who covered the various health insurance plans available including emphasis on the new Self Plus One option.

The Self Plus One option provides an opportunity for cost savings for many employees and retirees but is not automatic. Enrollment requires positive action which will first be available during the open season which runs from Nov. 9 through Dec. 15.

More information on federal health plans may be obtained from the Office of Personnel Management website.

NARFE Chap. 1191 covers Ellis, Navarro and adjacent parts of the surrounding counties.
