Charles S. Townson
Nov. 4, 1928-
Aug. 24, 2015
Mr. Charles S. Townson, age 86, passed away peacefully at Twilight Nursing Home in the early hours of Monday, Aug. 24, 2015. He was born on Nov. 4, 1928 in Grove Creek Community (Waxahachie) to Sidney Travis Townson and Ola Mae Wesley Townson. He attended school at Grove creek and completed his eighth grade education.
Charles worked as a truck driver most of his life and was a dock foreman for several companies. While employed as various truck driving businesses, Charles was injured and after foregoing several surgeries was placed on disability. The effects of these injuries never swayed his love of baseball. He himself played the game and taught his son and grandsons all the tricks of the trade. Charles continued to be an avid baseball fan. He attended as many games as he could including a Little League World Series in Georgia having the time of his life.
Charles’ family was from the great state of Alabama and some of them remain there today. Every summer Charles and his brothers would take a trip to spend time with family. Charles reminisced about the old days to anyone who would listen and wrote and published a book entitled “The Old Home Place”. The book in general spoke about how he became a Texan and meeting the love of his life, and wife, Sybil.
Charles never met a stranger. If you tried to ignore him he would continue to speak until you had to listen but then he became your best friend and you stayed to learn more about this man and his tales. Most of which were true.
His greatest love was his family. He worried about each and every one of them even if they were home and tucked in bed sound asleep. But nothing meant more to him than knowing his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He loved his Lord and ensured his family was raised in a Christian home with Christian values. Charles will be greatly missed by all who know him and leaves behind a loving legacy in Sybil and their children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and four sisters.
Charles is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sybil Wylie Townson, his children; Vicki Marie Garner and husband, Jim of Bardwell, Charles W. “Bubba” and wife, Linda Townson of Blooming Grove and Karen DeAnne Johnson and husband, Keith of Waxahachie. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Sissy, Page, Josh, David, Candice, Tracy, Darren and Keith; Twelve great-grandchildren, Stryder, J.D., Taylor, Collin, Coda, Caleb, Tatum, Trey, Hannah, Will, Calvin and Bethany.
