We are celebrating Herb Days at the Waxahachie Downtown Farmers Market this week. Be sure to stop by the Master Gardener booth and check out the herb plants. Also, market chef Cheryl has mixed up the ingredients for a flea repellent for your favorite four-legged friend. We were inspired by the sweet dogs and kittens who visited the market last Saturday. Thanks to the city pound employees, several of these cute animals found forever homes. Thank you all who considered adopting a pet. If you didnít adopt one Saturday, itís not too late. Just call city hall for information. Stop by the information booth next to the master gardeners to pick up a sample of the flea repellent and some timely information on herb plants that repel moths, ants, flour beetles and many other pests in the garden and home.
Itís peak growing season in Ellis County, so you will find lots of locally grown fruits, vegetables and produce. Peaches and blueberries are in season. Tommy has wonderful, sweet figs ready for preserve making. Have you ever tried dropping a dollop of blue cheese on some and sliding them under a broiler for a minute or so to melt the cheese? Excellent!
Look for plenty of tomatoes, peppers, summer squash, cucumbers, zucchini, okra, corn, green beans, field beans, potatoes and onions. Cantaloupe, watermelon, pears, plums and other fruits are on hand. Our vendors offer breads, eggs, plants, salsas, preserves and much more.
Looking for a unique gift? Visit the weGarden booth for one-of-a-kind glass sun catchers and glass bottle art. This colorful glass art can be hung outside in your yard or inside in a sunny window to catch the light. Come by and visit with the artist this Saturday. Custom orders available. Check out all our creative crafters for handmade, one-of-a-kind gifts. Sample flavorful vinegars, marinades and grilling sauces at Pastamoreí Express or salsas at Billy and Jimís Produce. Purchase a straw hat from Mark. Get your knives and garden tools sharpened at Vanceís Texas Sharp booth.
