Russ Schupmann Elementary will open in the fall of 2015.
Russí 25-year career with Red Oak ISD began in 1989. He served as principal of the intermediate school, junior high and high school. Later he became the Assistant Superintendent of Campus Operations before retiring in the Summer of 2014. Russ continues to be an active supporter of Red Oak ISD along with his wife Lynn.
In addition to the naming of the elementary campus, the board approved the renaming of the junior high to Red Oak Middle School as the sixth grade is incorporated into the campus in 2015-16.
The school board received more than 100 submissions for namesakes during the school naming process. Many worthy namesakes were taken into consideration at the meeting. In the coming months, the school board may consider renaming other elementary campuses that do not currently have a namesake to reflect the nominations brought forth by the community.
