A passenger of an all-terrain vehicle lost his life during an accident that took place on Sunday. The accident was reported to Ellis County dispatchers between 2-2:15 p.m. and was located on Farm-to-Market Road 813 southwest of Farrar Road northwest of Palmer city limits.
“A 2000 Polaris Sportsman 500cc was being driven by Alex Gutierres, 12, and carrying a passenger, Slade Russo, 13. The driver failed to negotiate a left hand curve, which sent the ATV off onto the shoulder of the road where it rolled. Both driver and passenger were ejected during the roll,” said Public Information Officer Trooper James Colunga with Texas Department of Public Safety. “The driver was taken by CareFlite to Dallas Children’s Hospital and is currently in stable condition. The passenger was taken from the scene by Care Flight ambulance to Waxahachie Baylor Scott & White, where he succumbed to his injuries.”
Colunga said the passenger was pronounced dead at 3:37 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Bill Woody and the body was then taken to the medical examiner’s office in Dallas. The accident is under investigation by DPS Trooper Paul Mooney.
