Sandra Turner, President of the Ellis County Republican Women, announced recently the organization would be hosting a blues and barbeque gala to introduce themselves to potential new members and their spouses.
“The name of the event is ‘Saddle Up With the Ellis County Republican Women,’ said membership chairman and 2nd vice president Patsy Grider. “The next round of elections will be here before you know it. Now is the time to make our Ellis County membership stronger than ever. We need to be saddled up and ready to ride by 2016.
“The Membership Drive kick-off party will be held Saturday, April 18 at The Nay Barn, FM 1446 in Waxahachie. The event begins at 6:30 with a barbeque buffet at 7 p.m., followed by music and dancing to the band Playing Chess. We will have several fun activities throughout the evening including a live auction,” said Grider.
“Our main purpose for the event is to invite others to join us in our very productive political and community service activities. Our members include elected officials, precinct chairman, election judges, poll workers, civic leaders and many other volunteers who work to keep America great.
“Not only do we provide dictionaries, copies of the constitution and scholarships to Ellis County school children, but we have ongoing education about our political system and current issues available at the monthly meetings,” she added. “An impressive list of guest speakers arranged by Tommie Worthy, 1st vice president, helps keep us informed and aware of needs that must be met.
“One of my favorite past events was hosting a luncheon for the first lady to be, Cecilia Abbott,” added Grider. “She was a wonderful speaker and visiting with her that way made the election of Governor Gregg Abbott even more exciting. Oh yes, we went to the inauguration also!
“There are even more fun projects in which to participate. We invite anyone who is interested to join in the fun by attending the ‘Saddle Up’ party and learning more.”
